Tapping into the potential of LinkedIn audio events

As part of the #SheInnovates campaign for the WFP Innovation Accelerator in March and April, I ventured into uncharted territory by organizing our first-ever LinkedIn Audio Event. Wanting to explore this fresh format that didn't demand extensive resources, we were eager to spotlight the exceptional women making a difference in their communities through innovation.

Our featured guest was the inspiring Chido Govera, a pioneer in sustainable food systems and founder of the Mushroom-based IFPS project. On World Innovation Day, April 27th, Chido and I discussed her journey in driving innovation for gender equality in the food and agriculture sector. Despite promoting the event just two days prior, we saw an impressive turnout of over 150 attendees.

LinkedIn audio events are gaining popularity due to their low-engagement, podcast-like nature. Here are some tips based on my experience with #SheInnovates:

  1. Create custom visuals: Use graphics that clearly indicate it's an audio event (e.g., sound waves) to make your visuals stand out.

  2. Promote strategically: Giving a heads up to your audience without overdoing it is essential. Two days was just enough for awareness and on-the-spot notifications.

  3. Brief your speaker on the tech: Invite your speaker 15 minutes early to iron out any technical issues and ensure smooth sailing during the event.

  4. Have backup support: A backup moderator and technical support colleague can step in if needed, preventing disruptions and wasted time.

  5. Encourage action: End the event by inviting listeners to follow up, whether it's connecting with the speaker, visiting their website, or donating to a cause.

LinkedIn Audio Events offer a unique opportunity to engage with your audience in a more intimate and genuine way. Embrace this innovative platform and share your experiences with others!
